Understanding Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is a policy that protects you, your family, and your belongings when you travel abroad. If something unexpected happens - a medical emergency, a flight cancellation, or lost baggage, travel insurance ensures you're financially protected. Allianz Travel offers plans starting from AED 56, providing a range of covers from basic medical emergencies to comprehensive trip protection.

Imagine being stranded in a foreign country due to a sudden flight cancellation, or facing tens of thousands of dirhams in medical bills due to an unexpected illness abroad. Travel insurance is your financial safety net. Without it, you bear 100% of these costs yourself. It is a small investment that protects you from potentially catastrophic financial consequences.

Anyone who is travelling internationally should have travel insurance - whether you are a solo traveller, a family, a senior, a student, or a business traveller. For destinations such as the Schengen Area (Europe), travel insurance is legally mandatory to obtain a visa. For all other destinations, it is strongly recommended.

You should purchase travel insurance as soon as you finalise your travel bookings - ideally on the same day you book your flights or accommodation. Buying early ensures you are covered for trip cancellation if something comes up before your departure. You cannot purchase travel insurance after your trip has already started.

Allianz Travel Insurance covers: emergency medical expenses and hospitalisation, emergency medical evacuation and repatriation, trip cancellation and curtailment, delayed or missed departures, lost, delayed or stolen baggage and personal belongings, personal liability cover, and COVID-19 related medical expenses and quarantine costs. Coverage limits vary by plan - always check the policy document before purchasing.

Travel insurance provides broad protection but does not cover everything. Common exclusions include: incidents that occur under the influence of alcohol or drugs, pre-existing medical conditions (please refer to the definition of pre-existing medical conditions in the policy terms & conditions) travel to destinations under government-issued travel warnings, and trip cancellations for reasons not listed in the policy. Always read the Terms and Conditions carefully to know exactly what is and is not covered.

Allianz Travel UAE offers a full range of products including: Travel Schengen (for Europe/visa compliance, from AED 56), Travel Global - Single Trip (worldwide coverage, from AED 76), Annual Multi-Trip (unlimited trips for a year, from AED 664), Travel to UAE / Inbound (for visitors arriving in UAE, from AED 50), Family Travel (2 adults + unlimited children, from AED 140), Senior Travel (up to 85 years old, from AED 140), Business Travel, Group Travel, and Sports/Hazardous Activities add-on cover.

The right plan depends on how often you travel and where. If you travel once a year, a Single Trip or Schengen plan works best. If you travel 3 or more times a year, the Annual Multi-Trip plan is more cost-effective. Families should look at the Family Travel plan which covers 2 adults and unlimited children under one policy. Seniors up to 85 years old have dedicated coverage. If you are visiting the UAE from abroad, the Inbound to UAE plan is designed specifically for you.

The Annual Multi-Trip plan covers you for an unlimited number of trips over 12 months, provided no single trip exceeds 90 days. Instead of buying a new policy for every trip, you pay once a year and are automatically covered whenever you travel. This is the most cost-effective option for frequent travellers.

Travel insurance is not legally mandatory for entry to the UAE, but it is strongly recommended. Multiple embassies (including India and Australia) officially advise their nationals visiting the UAE to carry travel insurance. For outbound travel to the Schengen Area (Europe), travel insurance is a visa requirement. Allianz Travel Insurance is 100% compliant and accepted for Schengen visa applications.

Allianz Travel Insurance covers travellers from newborns (0 years) up to 85 years old. There is no minimum age - babies and young children are covered under family plans. Senior travellers up to 85 years old can purchase the dedicated Senior Travel plan.

Payment & Refunds

Visit allianz-assistance.ae, click 'Get a Quote', select Single Trip or Annual Multi-Trip, enter your destination, travel dates, and traveller details. Choose your preferred plan level and pay securely online using Visa or Mastercard. Your policy documents are sent instantly by email.

You may request a refund within 14 days of receiving your policy documents, provided no claims have been made and your trip has not yet started. For Schengen policies, refunds are considered if you are unable to obtain a visa beyond the 14 days.

Typically, insurance providers don't offer refunds for unused days on single-trip policies. It is therefore important to know your trip dates before booking your travel insurance. It is no different with annual multi-trip. There is no refund for unused days on an annual multi-trip policy.

UAE-based outbound travel plans are available to UAE residents only. If you are visiting the UAE from abroad, you can purchase our Inbound to UAE plan, designed specifically for international visitors.

Claims & Emergencies

Call Allianz Travel's 24/7 emergency assistance line immediately: +971 4 270 8705 (UAE). The emergency team operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will coordinate medical care, hospital admission, and - if necessary - medical evacuation or repatriation. Save this number in your phone before you travel.

To make a claim on your Allianz annual travel insurance:

  1. In case of a medical emergency, please contact our 24/7 emergency line immediately for medical emergencies: +971 4 270 8705, or alternatively send us an email on assistance@nextcarehealth.com
  2. For all other non-emergency reimbursement claims, you can file your claim through our online platform:   https://travelclaims.tatsh.cloud/
  3. Alternatively, you can also contact us via telephone on +971 4 270 8705, or send us an email on travel.claims@nextcarehealth.com.  We’re available from 8 AM to 8 PM, Monday to Friday.
  4. A dedicated claims assessor will review your case and contact you for any additional information. Approved claims are reimbursed per the policy terms.
